To kick off its Korea IT Volunteers (KIV) Program for this year, the National Information Society Agency (NIA) of Korea is running a survey to identify the demand for volunteers in telecentres, government agencies, schools, NGOs and other organizations in different parts of the world.
The KIV Program is classified into two: short term (which lasts for 1 month, starting between July and August) and medium term (which lasts for 2-3 months, starting between July and August or September and November).
For short term, KIVs will mainly be involved in providing intensive IT skills training. Aside from that, they will also engage in cultural exchange with the local community. For medium term, on the other hand, KIVs may either be involved in IT training/education in such areas as web programming, network management, web design as well as use of various software applications from basic to advanced level; or in IT project/consulting wherein volunteers will work together with public agencies, local companies, or schools in partner countries to implement IT projects that reflect the organization’s needs.
To date, NIA has dispatched 4,606 KIVs composed mainly of university and college students to 70 countries in Asia, Middle East, CIS, Europe, Latin America and Africa since 2001.
This year, the program is open to the following countries:
